I was working on a scientific illustration for herpes simplex virus replication and thought the virus particle was so beautiful that I decided to make an abstract flower pattern using the design of the surface proteins.  Maybe a little odd, not really, there are incredibly beautiful images in nature, much more complicated and orderly that most of us realize.
