Traditional log cabin quilt block is great for stained glass since it has interlocking rectangles and far less tendency to fold on the straight lines like most quilt patterns used for stained glass.  While when stitching quilts with fabric, seam lines that are straight are preferred, easier, just lots easier. But for stained glass the opposite is what works best, and it is easier ultimately to solder into a stable panel.
